Abstract

In this study efficacy of frequently used topical corticosteroids in rhinitis of rat nose was investigated. Topical corticosteroid, budesonide was applied twice a day 10 mL into the noses of 10 rats in study group and serum physiologic was applied into noses of 6 rats in control group for 21 days. Histopathologic findings from three different sites, one from anterior site nearby incisor teeth, one from posterior site around hard palate and one from second tracheal ring were correlated. There were no significant differences regarding edema, ciliary loss and intraepithelial loss. Fibrosis, increase in epithelial  thickness at anterior slides, infiltration of inflammatory cells at posterior slides and increase in goblet cells were found significant. Budesonide was found as a safe topical corticosteroid for nasal mucosa.
