Abstract

Tympanic membrane perforations in 22 patients were treated with Tegaderm as the patch material. Perforations were resulted from slap  (n: 18), blast injury (n: 2) and chronic persistent perforation which  were less than 3 mm. Patients were followed-up between the periods of 2 months to 3 years. The ratio of healing and the development of late complications were evaluated. The rates of healing and the development of the complications were evaluated. In 18 patients -most of the perforated ears were left- were caused by slap trauma. Regarding the hearing level, with the exception of two patients influenced by blast trauma, all the patients have normal or near-normal hearing level. The tympanic membrane perforation of 20 patients (95.6%) healed completely. Neither early nor late complications were found. Tegaderm is preferable material to use in traumatic tympanic perforations as a patch material because of its sterility, easy appliance and transparency allowing to observe the closure of perforations without any further intervention.
