Abstract

Rhinocerebral mucormycosis (RCM) is a potensially aggressive and fatal fungal infection. The classic presentation is involvement of nasal mucosa with the paranasal sinuses and orbit. Beside this intracranial neural tissue, involvement is common. RMC is commonly seen with diabetic ketoacidosis, but the advent of powerful immunosupresive drugs and widespread of immune compromising, have changed the dermographies of RCM. Treatment includes aggressive surgical debridement, systemic and local amphotericin B administration while controlling the underlying systemic co morbid factors. We treated our 31 years old male patient with aggressive surgical debridement and systemic and local amphotericin B who has type I diabetes mellitus and ketoacidosis. We presented our case and reviewed the characteristic clinical, radiological and pathological features of the disease and its treatment.
