Abstract

Recently, there are some evidence that Herpes virus plays role in the pathogenesis of idiopathic facial paralysis. However, the exact mechanism is not truly known. In an attempt to further enlighten the contagious nature of Herpes virus, virus gene has been searched in eye drop and saliva sample of 20 consecutive facial paralysis. Only one patient demonstrated positive result with PCR analysis which shows that the primary occurrence of the infection is unlikely.
