Abstract

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is a common problem in otologic practice, and also is a disease of unknown etiology and pathophysiology. There were various clinical treatments and regimens to solve this problem. We performed this retrospective study on 47 ears of 38 patients were evaluated all patients clinically and audiologically. We carried out routine puretone audiometry on every other days. We detected viral and vascular causes in 63% of patients, and treated them with standard regimen that included rheomacrodex, benzodiazepine, pentoxifylline and antiviral agents for some patients. In audiologic analysis we detected average 49.46 dB pure tone threshold before treatment. We obtained average 19.71 dB gain after treatment. It was statistically significant (p < 0.001). We analyzed gains by frequency specific and we observed that maximum gain on 1000 Hz.
